Adventures in Switching/Shunting Puzzles
John Allen Time Saver
I always wanted to build a John Allen Timesaver. And I did! In N-Scale.
It’s a fully self-contained layout in a box: layout, NCE DCC control, locomotives, freight cars, lighting, everything!
Constructed on 50mm extruded insulation foam, wrapped in MDF facing and using Peco code 55 track and switches. Using analogue Seep point motors and Gaugemaster Autofrogs.
Ginglenook
A ginglenook is a G-Scale Inglenook switching puzzle. It uses six freight cars instead if the usual seven.
It’s ideal for larger scales as it occupies less space.
The setup:
- 1 Locomotive
- 6 Cars – uniquely identified
- 6 Card Cards – matching the unique cars.
The challenge:
- Draw 4 card
- Assemble the matching cars, in the order drawn, on the front (long) siding.
